I am proud to say that I am FINALLY reading "The DaVinci Code." OMG, why couldn't I get past the prologe before? This is a great book. Much better than the movie... and the movie was excellent.

Finished the book. It was pretty good - definitely entertaining. I'd think people who actually have dogs would relate a little better and like it more. but i liked it a lot and the photos of the dog, ADORABLE!

I'm reading The Cold Moon by Jeffrey Deaver at the moment. I love that guy's books. I got to meet him a few years ago. Felt uncool saying hey to him with my mother at my side, but friggit, I met Jeffrey Deaver.

Ohhhhh, I saw that movie, a few times, but never read it, illuminate. Better than the movie?

I'm currently reading: Blue Smoke by Nora Roberts
Lifetime did this book into a movie, and I watched it, and liked it. So, Shanny ordered the book for me, off of amazon. It's good.

Actually, I rather liked the movie, illuminate. Robin Williams was wonderful, as usual. You should rent it... especially if the book is THAT slow.

About 10 years ago I read a book (a series of short stories) by Tom Reamy called "San Diego Lightfoot Sue & Other Stories". It was fantasy/horror fiction but it was really good if you like that kinda thing. Anyways, I'm searching all over to get a copy of the book. Since it's pretty old, maybe 30yrs or so....it may be out of print. Has anyone here read any of his work?

Also, I like Clive Barker. Read most of his novels, most memorable "COLDHEART CANYON" in paperback. It's freaky fantasy horror. I'd recommend Barker's "Books of Blood" to start off with if you like real horror. Very graphic, but interesting.

Still Bill Clinton's MY LIFE
Still John Irving's THE WORLD ACCORDING TO GARP
and now Myla Goldberg's BEE SEASON

that last one will be a quick read though, so far i like it.

I'm currently reading, "Doppleganger" by Marie Brennan

When a witch is born, a doppelganger is created. For the witch to master her powers, the twin must be killed. But what happens when the doppelganger survives?

Mirage, a bounty hunter, lives by her wits and lethal fighting skills. She always gets her mark. But her new mission will take her into the shadowy world of witches, where her strength may be no match against magic.

Miryo is a witch who has just failed her initiation test. She now knows that there is someone in the world who looks like her, who is her: Mirage. To control her powers and become a full witch, Miryo has only one choice. To hunt the hunter and destroy her.

When I finish this book, I have the second book to start. I don't know if there will be a third, or not. Both of these books were released last year.

The second book is: Warrior and Witch

When a witch is born, a doppelganger is created. For the witch to master her powers, the twin must be killed. Until now . . .
Created by the merging of witch
and doppelganger, Mirei is a unique being. Her extraordinary magic makes her the most powerful witch alive -- and a notorious social outcast. While Satomi, the leader of the witches' ruling Primes, hails Mirei as a miracle, rival Primes proclaim that Mirei is an evil abomination . . . and that those who champion her must be destroyed. Now the different factions of witches engage in a bloody war with magic, treachery, and murder. But both sides may be fighting for nothing. For the power that the rebel Primes fear, the magic that Mirei alone possesses, is killing her.

I'm reading Stephen King's Nightshift, and also Tom Wolfe's Bonfire of the Vanities.

A quick note about the last book I read: It was good, but was also needlessly complicated.

Anybody who doesn't want a spoiler, don't read on.

I'll also make it hard to read. Okay, what happens is they're on a murder case. The first murder scene has blood on the edge of the dock and a clock nearby. The body is gone, and they assume the victim was made to hold onto the dock with his wrists slashed and them went off into the water and washed away. The second victim was in an alley, with a clock nearby, and a large pole (heavy one) crushing his throat. The pole was apparently connected to a rope, and the victim had to hold onto it and when he let go, the pole dropped, killing him. Okay, meanwhile, one police officer is working on a case of police corruption, and while they're investigating both cases, the killer breaks into 3 other places and attempts to kill people but is interupted. Then they catch the killer, and the killer says "no, that was my blood at the dock, and the body in the alley was already dead - I just stole the body". This checks out, and he says his motivation was revenge for a friend who was killed by the corrupt cops, and his plan was to draw the corrupt cops out and catch them; and that's what goes on. Okay, there's more to it, but that's just jist. Then later, they find out this is all a cover for something else he was planning to do, which was apparently stealing some sort of special clock... though then it turns out, that's not what he was planning, but he was planning to bomb a particular building... and the 3 victims he previously tried to kill but didn't were covers for him doing 'other things'.

Well, all in all... it was interesting, but the guy's plan was just so out there that it made no sense by the end. There were other players and other parts of the plan I didn't meantion, but gee-gad, what was the point in half of that?
