PostSubject: Pants are not optional   Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:14 am

For a while now, for female performing artists, pants have been becoming rarer and rarer during performances, as clothes and costumes became more and more lingerie-like, costumes became pretty much a combination of bra-tops with pants/ panties with shirts/ just underwear, but this has now gone out into the street, with people like Lady Gaga going shopping and to dinner without pants on. Sure, on stage, it's a performance, pants are optional, but off-stage, in the street, you are required to dress appropriately. If you or I walked down the street in a leotard with a giant tea cup on our heads, we'd be institutionalised immediately. I understand she's an "artist" and her "art" goes beyond her music and into every facet of her life (Rolling Eyes) but does that excuse her from following normal standards of decency?

Also, there should be an age limit on being pants-less, even for performers. Madonna is 53 years olds, she needs to wear pants.

I REALLY hope that this is one celebrity trend that doesn't make it into the mainstream. I like my pants, I do not want to walk around in my underwear, I do not want to go shopping and have to mingle with people walking around in their underwear, especially old, fat, ugly people.

I would also like to point out that leggings are NOT pants, but that's another rant for another time.

This:

is not a dress. It is definitely not suitable for the Grammys red carpet. I don't care if it is Dolce and Gabanna, it looks stupid.

I'm reminded of the story of the Emperor's New Clothes and, I think, no finer parrallel can be found to that story that this. Until someone says these kind of outfits are ridiculas in public then celebs are just going to continue to live in their own little dream land.

In relation to my comments about leggings not being pants, I had to share this:

American Apparel are now printing this inside their leggings. I love it.
