PostSubject: 2012 Election   Wed Nov 07, 2012 1:40 pm

Yesterday was election day in the United States, and President Obama has won a second term. Of course, that wasn't the only major vote for this election. I'm familiar with what was on the ballot for Washington, mainly the legalization of same-sex marriage and recreational weed, but not as familiar with what was voted on in other States.

What were some important votes that were won or lost in your States? How do you feel about Obama winning?

I'm stoked about the votes for gay marriage and weed. In fact, I may visit one my of favorite gay couples this weekend to light up a celebratory joint.

On the federal level, weed is still illegal, though. What I'm guessing is going to happen is that people caught with weed on them won't be in trouble, but feds will be making raids on any businesses that start selling.

Obama wins again but doesn't control the senate. I've heard there are fears that he'll become a "lame duck" president for this term, with no real power to make any changes.

On the weed front, I think the way it worked in California with medicinal marijuana was you couldn't profit from it. I think this will be a similar case.

The lame duck thing is probably true. The issue is the parties just vote down everything unless they get to add their own provisions.

I'm personally ecstatic that Romney didn't get voted it. I'm surprised he got as much of the popular vote that he did. I can't think of a single reason to vote for him, unless you're an extremely conservative Christian (or Mormon) who's on a million dollar salary. Otherwise, I can't see what he has to offer.

I just couldn't trust him. Listening to him speak over the past few months, there's just something off about him. I don't really believe for a minute he'd have had America's interests at heart.

The Republican Party should really rethink their stance on certain things the next time around. If they want to be taken seriously, that is.

The thing about Romney that I noticed and that lots of his critics noticed, but I guess that his supporters just refused to register, was that he changed his stance all the time depending on who was his audience. Maybe not on the really big issues that get the most coverage, but on enough other things that he came across as someone who would say whatever he could in order to be elected.

In the 2008 election he tried to get nominated as the Republican candidate, and I remember one of the other Republicans saying something like, "Someone who will lie to you in order to be President will lie to you when he's President."

I'm just thrilled that Romney didn't win. I don't have internet or TV, so I had to wait until the papers came out the day after the election to know who won. I just stood in front of the news stands taking deep breaths of relief.

I agree that there's something off about him. He makes me uncomfortable. I don't want to sound like a hater, especially since there are lots of Mormons in my home town and I'm friends with many of them, but I wouldn't want Romney as President largely because he's Mormon. Not just a Jack Mormon, but didn't his family flee to Mexico to keep being polygamists after it was made illegal in the United States? Because they wanted to keep doing things that were deemed acceptable within their religion even if they were specifically made illegal within the laws of their country? I know that Romney isn't a polygamist, but his great-grandfather was, and so I would be shocked if there wasn't a lingering attitude of being the boss of women. Especially since it was so recently in his family that those attitudes were supported. Hell, his policies on abortion and birth control are a good example of being the boss of women.

I don't know if this is real because I didn't look into it, but I believe he didn't even win the State he was governor of? That's pretty damning, if you ask me.

That reminds me -- how was Book of Mormon?!?!!???!! I want to see that so bad...

Obama won, yes. Not really a shocker.

The Senate is Republican controlled, but the House is Democrat controlled. Was the same way the last two years. Should be alright.

Glad he won. Now Facebook can go back to normal. Yar.
