Anybody not currently reading Saga really has to read Saga. Not that I expect anybody to see this.

where do you guys get these? I started reading a spiderman series as a teenager and then the local grocery store (yes, they were in grocery stores in the 80's) didn't have issue 4 or whatever, so I gave up on comics after that.

I guess now you order them online?

I get mine from a comic book store. Those stores are usually called something like Sports Card or Trading Card stores on internet searches. I had a subscription at my old store for years and years, but I just closed all my subscriptions a few months ago when I moved. It made it easy, though -- the comic book guy would order all my stuff for me, in case it wasn't normally something he'd sell, and then he'd put all my comics in a box. When I came in I just asked if there was anything in my box.

Now I have to find a new store. I think the closest is about ten minutes away.

I've ordered online before but it seems to be hit or miss for if the binding holds together, or if the front cover will be wrinkled or creased by the time it arrives.

All I'm reading right now is The Walking Dead and Saga. I was reading Powers but it's sort of fizzled out for me. The guy is so far behind on his deadlines that it's a few months in between issues, and by then I've forgotten what happened.

I used to read way more but most of my series have ended. Fables was my favorite.

Oh oh! And I'm reading The Stuff of Legend. It's like Toy Story but for adults. A little boy gets kidnapped by The Boogie Man and pulled into the dark land through his closet. His toys are alive and take volunteers to go into The Dark to rescue their boy. There's a teddy bear, a jack-in-the-box, a toy soldier, a piggy bank, that sort of thing.

It comes out as books instead of single issues so I have to wait a year or more in between books. I think there are five books so far.

I saw a walking dead comic some time ago in the book store, and was grossed out at the violence of it, which is weird, cause I can watch the t.v. series if I close my eyes when bad stuff happens.

In books and movies, I can self edit a little, with the comics, it's art in my mind and the image is stuck.

they claim that sophia is still alive in the comics. What is she up too?

PostSubject: Re: Comic Books   Wed Oct 11, 2017 10:55 am

There were lots of changes between the comics and show with who is alive and who is dead. Carol died in the prison, there is no Daryl, Andrea is alive and is married (or long-time live-in girlfriend) to Rick, and Sophia is a spunky teenager (there was a time jump) who lives with Maggie and baby Hershel at the hilltop. Maggie is her adoptive mother. Sophia's a pretty minor character now because the comics mostly focus on Rick, and he lives in Alexandria. The last time we saw her, she beat the crap out of a kid who picked a fight with her. We only saw her then because Carl moved to the hilltop and met up with her.

She and Carl dated when they were kids and just held hands and were cute. Nothing but friendship between them now.

There were only a couple times when the gore in the comic was too much for me. When Carl got shot in the head (I think the show skipped that -- too hard to CGI out an eye each episode) and when Glenn died. The Glenn picture made me sick and it filled the entire page for the one picture.

Oh yeah, I saw the glen picture on google image when I was searching was for walking dead spoilers. Pretty disgusting stuff. Thankfully I closed my eyes when the bat was heading for his head when the t.v. show was on. I knew it was gonna be gross.

they claim a lot of people left the show over that moment, the ratings went down.

Poor comic book glen and poor t.v. glen!!!!

I don't watch the show but a woman at work does, so she tells me about the episodes and asks for spoilers. She doesn't want to get attached to anyone if I know they are going to die Smile Same thing with Games of Thrones -- love the books but I don't have HBO.

She said that people got very upset about early in the show when a little kid got shot for being a crazy murderer. I think the show handled it as best they could, because in the comics it was Carl who killed the murderer, and I think that watching one little kid execute another would have been too much for TV audiences.

And yes, poor Glenn! He and Maggie were off to live happily ever after at the hilltop! He was so close to being away form all that fighting! I was very upset about that.

I won't spoil anything with names, but in the most recent episode of the comics that I read, there was a VERY unexpected death of a popular character. Several characters were shown dead and most of them were background characters, but then you turn the page and the last image is of this character with his/her zombie head on a pike. If I wasn't already desensitized by Glenn to that sort of shock, I would have been horrified by this person's death.

is the head still alive on the pike?

that would be unsettling. Hershals head was bad enough.

Yes, that head and all the others had to be hit in the brain because they were zombie heads. There were a whole bunch of pikes in a line meant to mark the borders of Rick&Co.'s territory and the edge of the territory of the new Big Bad.

The new Big Bad in the comics are called The Whisperers, led by a woman named Alpha. The Whisperers clean out zombie skins and wear them, then they walk among the zombies and live with them. None of them have names because they consider themselves animals. When they first showed up the other humans thought that zombies had started talking and using weapons.

They are all batsh*t crazy and Carl has the hots for Alpha's daughter.

There’s a shop online called instocktrades that sells trades and graphic novels for a decent price. Free shipping in the US for orders over $50. I should be advertising for them.

You just gotta know what you want. I go through stuff slowly. I read a lot of different series but tend to concentrate on either major series or big event books.

I was using this to catalogue what I owned and read but I gave up ages ago. Got busy at work and I just stopped worrying about it.

I’m like 2 seasons behind on walking dead. Or about 100 issues behind. Both are correct, I don’t see myself ever catching up with either. Not that I don’t like it; it’s just a daunting task.

I've really cut back on how many comics I'm reading at once. After a couple series that I was reading ended I just haven't found anything new that I want to read.

Any suggestions?

I don't read that much interesting new stuff. I just usually get Batman trades, and I'm doing X-Men Blue and Gold at the moment but I wouldn't necessarily say they're must-reads or anything. None of the recent event books were that great. Inhumans Vs. X-Men was whatever, Civil War II was fine. Not must-reads or anything.

I strongly recommend Saga to everybody I meet, but you already got it.
