And just like that, The View is clear of Rosie O'Donnell.
In a surprise announcement Friday, ABC said that O'Donnell would not return to the show. The move comes at O'Donnell's behest, two days after an on-air shouting match broke out between O'Donnell and cohost Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and three weeks before she was due to end her run on the daytime chatfest.
The official statement portrayed the parting as amicable.
"We had hoped that Rosie would be with us until the end of her contract," said Brian Frons, president of ABC Daytime, "but Rosie has informed us that she would like an early leave. Therefore, we part ways, thank her for her tremendous contribution to The View and wish her well."
Show creator Barbara Walters chimed in: "Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at The View. I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
And O'Donnell was equally pleasant: "It's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
That apparently includes Hasselbeck, O'Donnell's regular on-air sparring partner.
The political polar opposites routinely debated issues, but things boiled over on Wednesday when talk turned toward the war in Iraq and O'Donnell and Hasselbeck took personal swipes at each other.

The jist of the fight, as I understand it.

Rosie said something to the effect that the United States has killed 600 thousand Iraqi's, then asked "Who's the terrorists in this deal".

Don't got the exact qoute on that.

Then the Republican pundits got all over it and said she was calling our troops terrorists.

Then Blondie asked Rosie to make a statement saying she did not believe that, and Rosie got all pissed and wouldn't defend the statement one way or the other, but kept asking Blondie if she believed that Rosie believed our troops were terrorists, then it got all ugly and ****.

Of course, being a right wing repub myself, I took blondies side, but apart from the politics of the argument, the whole deal there went south. It makes for entertainment, but I personally think debate shows are way way better when you keep it level and civil. This WWF style of politics just makes more bad blood.

I blame them both for it really, but I'm glad Rosie is gone. She needs some show where she sits around and gripes her stuff, and no one is arguing back with her.

Did Rosie Leave Trail of Trash, 'Staches?

Posted May 25th 2007 11:22AM by TMZ Staff
Filed under: Let's Get This Party Started

Rosie O'Donnell may have burned whatever bridges she had at "The View," after her ballistic blowup with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, allegedly trashing her dressing room in anger.

And that's not all! Her chief writer, Janette Barber, reports, was escorted from ABC studios after she was caught drawing moustaches on photos of Elisabeth hanging around the building. Indeed, ABC confirmed to the Post that "photographs at 'The View's" offices were defaced," though it adds that Rosie wasn't around when it happened.

Rosie O'Donnell Out at `The View'

By DAVID BAUDER AP Television Writer
2007 The Associated Press
NEW YORK Rosie O'Donnell has fought her last fight at "The View."
ABC said Friday she asked for, and received, an early exit from her contract at the daytime chatfest following her angry confrontation with co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Wednesday. She was due to leave in mid-June.
It ended a colorful eight-month tenure for O'Donnell that lifted the show's ratings but no doubt caused heartburn for show creator Barbara Walters. O'Donnell feuded with Donald Trump and frequently had snippy exchanges with the more conservative Hasselbeck.
O'Donnell said last month she would be leaving because she could not agree to a new contract with ABC executives.
"Rosie contributed to one of our most exciting and successful years at `The View,'" Walters said. "I am most appreciative. Our close and affectionate relationship will not change."
In a statement, O'Donnell said that "it's been an amazing year and I love all three women."
No one was feeling the love on Wednesday, when the argument with Hasselbeck began over O'Donnell's statement last week about the war: "655,000 Iraqi civilians have died. Who are the terrorists?"
Talk show critics accused O'Donnell of calling U.S. troops terrorists. She called Hasselbeck "cowardly" for not saying anything in response to the critics.
"Do not call me a coward, because No. 1, I sit here every single day, open my heart and tell people what I believe," Hasselbeck retorted, and their riveting exchange continued despite failed attempts by their co-hosts to cut to a commercial.
According to a New York Post report, O'Donnell's chief writer, Janette Barber, was allegedly led out of the building on Wednesday after she was caught drawing mustaches on photographs of Hasselbeck in "The View" studios. ABC executives didn't return repeated calls for questions on the incident Friday.
On Thursday O'Donnell had asked for a day off to celebrate her partner's birthday. "The View" aired a taped show on Friday.
On her Web site, O'Donnell posted a scrapbooklike video on Friday with pictures and news clippings of her tenure at "The View." Cyndi Lauper's "Sisters of Babylon" played in the background.
A day earlier, she posted messages on her Web site indicating she might not be back.
"When painting there is a point u must step away from the canvas as the work is done," she wrote. "Any more would take away."

I don't know. I admit I'm biased, and that politics play a part, you know we are all human. If Rosie was a conservative mouthing off like she does, I don't know if I would dislike her or not.

In my defence, I can't stand Bill O'Rielly or Ann Coulter, and Rush sounds like a pompous wind bag, so I don't think I would go for Rosie. But I do admit Bias.

I like Rosie, and I always have. But, she went over a f'n cliff on Wednesday. I was watching The View, and I have to say that I sat there, with my jaw on the ground. The shows f'n producers have a HUGE part in this. They should have cut to commercial. There was no reason to air that crap. Back and forth... they were BOTH wrong. There were below the belt comments by both. And Donald Trump actually attacked Elisabeth Hasselback, saying that she's the dumbest person on the earth, or something like that. Actually, I think that she's very smart. I don't agree with her political views... but hey, I don't really care, to tell ya the truth. Overall, it was a hot situation, that should have been brought under control.. and had Barbara Walters been there on Wed, I seriously wonder if that would have happened. Joy tried, SEVERAL times, to get them to stop there childish crap. Didn't happen.

I do have to add, I busted up, and rewatched, several times, when Alicia Silverstone walked out for her interview (after the fight and a commercial break) and totally dissed Elisabeth. It was fricken classic. SNUB CITY, SISTER!

I was shocked when I saw the clips of the fight. Rosie went way over the line, and I felt bad for Elizabeth because she is pregnant and getting all worked up is bad for the baby. Rosie just derailed, and I think that Elizabeth should have stopped when it got to the point it did. The producers should have cut to a break.

What really got me is that they say that Rosie trashed her dressing room and that her writer defaced all of Elizabeth's pictures in the building and had to be escorted out of the building.

As for Trump, the guy is an ass. He can't keep his trap shut, so he shouldn't comment on other people that can't.

I enjoy seeing people debate and argue, but when it gets all personal and mean, then it's just crappy to watch.

That was pointless. It could've ended with the blonde girl saying "yes, I think you support the troops" and Rosie saying "I do support the troops, but I think their commander-in-chief is a terrorist, and I'm not afraid to say that."

Both are freakin' stubborn.

I doubt they're REALLY friends. They just like the view girls to look chummy. When the cameras go off, they probably don't talk to each other.

Well, according to the news, they got along on the set, and were friends, and then just debated on the show, but then it got all dirty and nasty when they let the politics of the whole deal get to them, and then it just went into nastyville.

That just sucks. You know, friends don't argue with friends like that, if they really care about each other... I mean, it's like... okay, differing opinions about stuff, fair enough, but I think friends always have a way of communicating their opinions to their friends without offending. Like Dave calling me yellow-bellied, carpet-baggin', homo-lovin' liberal scum. He's got a way with words like that.

Well, I goto Rosie's personal website/blog each day. She didn't trash anyone's office. She actually just left the studio, and then she went home. One of her people drew a mustache on one picture of Elisabeth. That was it. Rosie and Elisabeth have spoken, via email, since this all happened. They aren't fighting anymore... but, it's over and done with.

The news is going to spin it anyway that they want. A lot of the news shows don't like Rosie, so they will do everything that they can to make her look even worse. The only people that I'm going to believe anything about all of this from is Rosie or Elisabeth. PERIOD!!

Friends should never talk about religion, or politics (esp with differing views) because it normally leads to passionate debates, and can get nasty. That's what happened between them. Rosie was hurt, and she lashed out. Elisabeth was hurt, and she lashed out. Plain and simple. They both know that they went overboard... but it's over and done with. You can't go back and do anything about it.

Rosie said that the producers didn't goto commercial because they wanted this to happen. What crap... in my opinion.

Who knows what will happen with their "friendship." They are both hurt over this, and it's sad. Hopefully they can still be friends, and get passed this. Rosie NEVER said that our troops are terrorists... but, she isn't happy with the administration that has sent over thousands of military people, into a country that we had no business in, and killing all those INNOCENT people. That was her point. The media spun that crap, and because of that she was hurt, and offended. All she did, at first, was ask Elisabeth if she believed that Rosie thought our troops were terrorists. She did answer her own question... but Elisabeth wouldn't answer it. Instead, it became a nasty fight of words between the two.

Walters says 'The View' will go on

Show's creator says she is saddened by the exit of O'Donnell and has been in touch with her.
By Matea Gold, Times Staff Writer
May 30, 2007

NEW YORK Four days after Rosie O'Donnell abruptly left "The View," program creator Barbara Walters said she was saddened by her departure but vowed that the ABC daytime talk show would continue to thrive.

"It's been quite a week, as all of you know, and it's a week that makes us in many ways very sad," Walters said at the beginning of Tuesday's program.

Walters called last week's angry exchange between O'Donnell and co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck "a little contretemps," describing it as the kind of back and forth that would typically take place off camera.

"I think the Iraq war brings out a lot of very hot feelings, and we had our own hot feelings," she said.

Walters said that she and O'Donnell "have been e-mailing each other all weekend with the most affectionate notes because we are very close friends."

"And as I said last week, my admiration for her and my affection for her Rosie, if you're watching nothing will change that," she said.

Producers must now scramble to find fill-in hosts to replace O'Donnell, who pulled out of her contract with ABC nearly a month early following last week's dispute. On Tuesday, comedian Whoopi Goldberg substituted on the panel, and the four co-hosts discussed O'Donnell's exit briefly before moving on to other topics.

Hasselbeck said she and O'Donnell "have had incredible discussions" on the program and said they were "in communication a lot" over the weekend.

"And I think this weekend gave us the opportunity to tackle our most important hot topic yet, and that was the power of forgiveness, and I believe we've begun that process," Hasselbeck said. "And so that enables us to move on in a very positive way."

However, in a video posted Saturday on her personal blog, O'Donnell said she hadn't spoken with Hasselbeck, although she noted that the younger woman called and spoke with her partner, Kelli Carpenter O'Donnell.

"I probably won't, and I think it's just as well," she said, adding that they did exchange e-mails.

"I never tried harder to be friends with someone than I did with her, from the get-go," O'Donnell added. "But I don't think we ended up there or anywhere close which is sad."

The comedian called the bitter on-air fight "shocking" and said she was deeply upset about the producers' use of a split screen during the live clash.

"When I saw the split screen, that's when I knew it was over, seriously," she said.

O'Donnell denied reports that she and her staff trashed her dressing room before she left, but confirmed that her producer Janette Barber drew a mustache on a tacked-up magazine photo of Hasselbeck after the fight, calling it a "spur-of-the-moment" action.

The comedian said that Barber, who often appears in O'Donnell's video blogs, was "in the naughty corner."

O'Donnell seemed resolved about her decision to leave "The View," saying there was no "spirit of community" on the show.

"I was really just like the foster kid for the year," she said. "I came, we considered adoption, but I didn't really fit into the family."

Who knows if these idiots were friends or not. From what I've read about Rozilla, I doubt she has any friends aside from her Koosh balls.

So basically a couple of loud mouth bitches start jawing at each other on live television and it's like the Nurenberg trials all of a sudden. One is a bullish, mean spirited, shit-disturbing cow and the other is a moronic, mush mouthed useless talking face married to a sucky backup NFL quarterback. Either give these two broads those long sword deals and have 'em fight it out like Kirk and Spock or let this non-news story fade away.

O'Donnell let her piehole talk her out of another job. Shocker.

It's all a gigantic ratings ploy. ABC exec's are rubbing their nipples in excitement over people talking about this dumb ass estrogen fuled nightmare of a show.

-HECK!
